Press Release – MTI to launch Camo Cod Series at ICAST 2016

Plympton, MA— April 1, 2016 Following last year’s introduction of the UNDERCOD vest for commercial fishing, MTI Adventurewear plans to expand the product line to the Sportfishing market at the upcoming ICAST show in July with the CAMO COD SERIES.  Based on the bestselling UNDERDOG life vest for pets, the UNDERCOD was developed to address the sinking Cod Fish population in the North Atlantic.

“Cape Cod Bay is in our backyard,” explains Lili Colby, Chief PFDiva at MTI. “When we heard about the sinking Cod Fish population, we felt that we could apply our expertise in life jacket design to help.”  Like the UNDERDOG vest, the UNDERCOD supports the fish in a natural swim position. But it’s the bright colors of the vest that has made it so popular with commercial fishermen. “As soon as you see the flash of Mango/Red of the durable 500D Cordura© in your net, you know you have a nice cod in there” explains Captain Tennille of the Cape Cod Commercial Fishermen’s Alliance of Chatham, MA. But after listening to initial retailer feedback at last year’s ICAST, Colby discovered that the sportfishing market required a modification of the vest.

Two important product development goals came out of MTI’s first ICAST show last year. First was the need to have an Auto-Inflatable version of the Helios 2.0. The second was to have camo colors for the UNDERCOD. Senior buyer at the Goose Hummock Shop in Orleans, MA, explains, “bright colors make it all too easy for the typical thrill-seeking, weekend-warrior fisherman.”  So Colby had MTI product designer, Gordon Colby, throw everything at getting both products ready to launch at this year’s show. The Neptune is a USCG Approved Type III Auto-Inflatable vest that meets the needs of kayak fisherman whose wives don’t trust their husbands to be able to pull the jerk tag of a manual inflatable PFD in the chaos of a capsize situation. “Retailers pay attention to the needs of the female consumer and demanded that we add this to the MTI line, so we made it a top priority for our 2017 assortment,” says MTI’s Sales VP, Joe LaGambina. But it’s the CAMO COD SERIES that MTI feels will be the real focus of attention at the show.

The MTI booth will be located directly across from Eddyline Kayaks, whose C-135 Stratofisher won “Best of Show” at ICAST 2015.  Tom Remsing, Sales Manager at Eddyline, couldn’t believe his luck. “With the CAMO COD and C-135 Stratofisher right next to each other, our corner of the hall will be buzzing with interested retail buyers and the media. I expect dramatic pour-over from the MTI booth to Eddyline.”

The CAMO COD SERIES features 3 colors designed for disguise in a variety of environments: “Seaweed” for colder waters, “Coral Reef” for warmer waters, and “Plastic Trash” for International waters.   Guaranteed to add the extra challenge that the sportsfisherman craves.
